Pointe des Bœufs Rouges

A family from the north of France in search of the Écrins sunshine!

With Adeline, François & Michel.

A little trip to the back of the Pilatte cirque to the pretty summit of the Pointe des Boeufs Rouges with Michel, the dad, François, the son, and Adeline, the son's girlfriend, who got dragged into a mountain trap, and a snowy one at that!

Le cirque de la Pilatte
The Pilatte cirque.

There are very few people at the Pilatte hut and we are the only rope team going down onto the glacier of the same name! A pleasant end-of-season atmosphere.

Having climbed calmly to the Col de la Contamine, Michel waits for us there, happy with the view he takes in and keen to save some strength and concentration for the descent of the beautiful, rather impressive snow slope.

So Adeline, François and I go on to the summit, where we are alone!

A moment of contemplation cut short by a cloud front glaring at us: we're off...

And indeed, about ten minutes before reaching the hut, the heavens open! Arriving soaked, a good hot soup and an excellent omelette lift our spirits.

The downpour...

Jérome had promised his sweetheart sunny high mountains: the trap almost worked ;-)

The sun is back.

Next time, the menu will be a touch of glacier for Jérome and good rock topped with a generous helping of sun for Adeline!
